AP Calculus BC

Course Description:  This is a college-level course available to students who have completed Pre- Calculus Honors.  This course is affiliated with the Advanced Placement Test of the College Board given in May.  Areas of study include functions, derivatives and their applications and integration and its’ applications, sequences and series.  The College Board requires the use of graphing calculators on the AP Calculus Exams.  Visit

AP Calculus BC Test:  This course is designed to prepare you for the Calculus BC Test.  Through your performance on this exam, you can earn college credit equivalent to two semesters of Calculus. 

 

Teacher Availability:  My open hours are 2nd and 4th.  During 2nd hour, I can be found in Newton’s Niche (Room 203).  During 4th hour, I can be found in Room 217.  Also, I am usually in my room by 7:00 a.m.   If you need to speak to me before school, after school, 2nd or 4th period, please make an appointment. 

 

Test/Quizzes:  Quizzes will be given periodically.  They may be announced or unannounced.  Calculators may or may not be used on quizzes.  Tests will be given every two to three weeks.  NO CALCULATORS allowed on tests.

 

Assignment Guide:  After every test you will be given an assignment guide that will provide you with a list of assignments for the next unit.

 

Homework:  Will be checked regularly.  If your homework is complete, you will receive a “+” in the grade book.  If your homework is not complete, you will receive a “0” in the grade book.  If, at the end of the tri, you have 90% or more of your homework completed, your grade will be raised by a third of a letter grade.  If, at the end of the tri, you have between 70 and 90% of the homework completed, your grade will be unchanged.  If, at the end of the tri, you have less than 70% of the homework completed, your grade will be lowered by a third of a letter grade. 

 

Homework Grade Recovery System:  If you fail to complete an assignment, you have one school day to turn the assignment in and change the “0” to a “+”.  The late assignment must be turned in by 3:30 the following school day to receive credit. 

 

Grading:  Your grade will be determined using the following equation to determine percentage.

 

            % = Points Earned/ Total Points

 

Grading Scale:  Traditional 90/80/70/60  grading scale.

Note:  Percentages will be rounded to the nearest percentage.

 

Expectations: 

1.      I teach, you learn.

2.      Respect yourself and others.

3.      Use class time productively.

4.      Grade Discussion – I will give you a grade update three times throughout the trimester.  This is the only time I will discuss grades with you.

 

Solution Manuals:  Student solution manuals are available for the low, low cost of $10.  A Teacher’s Solution Manual is available for you to check homework either during class or during a free period.
