West High School PSTO
Parent Student Teacher Organization

Please Note:  Each year the West Parent Student Teacher Organization serves the school's staff and students in many ways. Staff appreciation is shown through meals and refreshments several times a year, financial support for students in need, and materials for Home Ec, Social Studies DVD's, graphing calculators, multi-media equipment, science resource materials and art supplies are just a few examples. As the student and staff population grows at West High, so do the needs.

In the past few years, the West PSTO has found it difficult to try to meet the growing list of requests for support. The PSTO's only fund raiser (student directory sales) has taken in less money recently and outright donations to the PSTO have not kept up with our growth needs.

Please help our parent organization continue to support many worthwhile programs and projects at West High. Consider a donation to the West PSTO today to help us fund the wish list requests as the school year nears the end.

Candidates’ Forum Set for September 1, 2009

Iowa City, Iowa – The seven candidates for three terms of four years each on the
Iowa City Community School District Board of Directors will participate in the annual Candidates’ Forum, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1.

This will be an opportunity for the public to hear the candidates talk about their vision for the Iowa City school district and to ask the candidates questions. The school board election is Tuesday, September 8.

The forum will be in the Board Room of the district’s Central Administration Office, 509 S. Dubuque St.

The Candidates’ Forum is co-sponsored by the Districtwide Parents’ Organization and The Gazette.

The candidates are:

  • April Armstrong, 2511 Highway 1 SW, Iowa City
  • Michael Cooper, 3829 Stoney Pointe Lane NE, North Liberty
  • Tuyet Dorau, 2010 Wedgewood Place, Coralville
  • Anne M. Johnson, 75 Lynx Lane, North Liberty
  • Jean Jordison, 2735 Hickory Trail, Iowa City
  • Jeffrey A. Manthey, 185 Willow Lane, North Liberty
  • Sarah Swisher, 917 Bowery St., Iowa City
  • Joshua B. Kaine, of Iowa City, filed nomination papers to be on the ballot but hasn dropped out of the race.

PSTO Fundraiser - West High Directory

The 2008-2009 Student and Staff Directory is available for sale West High PSTO Directory in the main office. The price is $3 eachor 2/$5 and is a fundraiser for the PSTO and a service to the West High community. The West High PSTO uses the money raised to support academics and activities at West High School.
