| Students attending school under Public Law 142 may participate in the Special Olympics. Preparation for Special Olympics begins in August and continues through May. Practice is held during physical education classes, during open periods and other school times, as well as on weekends as scheduled by the Special Olympics Head Coach. WHS athletes compete for the ICCSD in the East Central Area for the opportunity to qualify for state competitions, which are held at various venues across Iowa.
