| Students enrolled in the band program may audition for membership in jazz bands, which are select groups that meet outside the school day. Pianists, electric bassists, and guitarists do not need to be members of the band or orchestra program. Students in the jazz program will study and perform a wide variety of styles including swing, blues, funk and rock. Students will also study jazz inflection, ensemble playing and improvisation. Students selected to the jazz program must attend all rehearsals and performances. Jazz Ensemble and Jazz I rehearse on Mondays from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and on Thursday mornings from 7:00-7:55 a.m. Jazz II rehearses from 3:30-4:25 on Tuesdays and from 7:00-7:55 on Fridays. Jazz Band auditions are held in early September. Audition materials may be picked up in the band room during the second week of school. The studetns in the Jazz Program attend three to five jazz festivals per year in addition to three concerts at school. There is no cost to participate in the jazz program. | ||
