AV Equipment Repair
Basic AV Equipment
Repair (new policy as of June 1, 2008)
As many basic AV equipment
items have become less expensive, almost "consumable," it is no longer
cost-effective to continue to repair these AV items. Additionally,
given the time involved by district tech staff in repairing AV items compared
with replacement costs, it has been determined that the following AV items
will no longer be repaired by the ICCSD tech department:
-
overhead projectors
-
cameras, including digital
still cameras, DV camcorders, analog video camcorders
-
televisions
-
VCR and DVD players and
VCR/DVD combo players
-
CD players (e.g. boom
boxes)
If a school wishes to pursue repairing one of
these AV equipment items, that school may choose to contact the manufacturer
for maintenance or repair work. Many AV items are purchased through
the
Iowa AV Coop, and information regarding
various manufacturers are on that website. Building budgets should
be planned accordingly to include anticipated repairs and/or replacement of AV
equipment.
Multimedia (Data/Video) Projector Repair
Multimedia (data/video)
projectors will continue to be evaluated and repaired through the tech
department. Follow this procedure:
-
Complete and submit a
new incident report in ITDirect through
SchoolDude.
-
Print one copy
of the incident report and send with the equipment to the Tech Center.
-
If the projector cannot be repaired in district,
and the tech staff determines that it is cost effective to repair the
projector,it will be forwarded to an outside
vendor for repair.
Projectors are typically repaired by ECS in
Davenport. This may result in the repair taking longer.
The tech staff will complete the necessary paperwork and shipment of the
projector to ECS. Payment for the repair is funded by a district media account.
-
If the projector is deemed not worth repair, you will be notified of this. You will then need to
replace the item out of annual capital outlay or building funds. Generally,
if the cost is more than 1/3 to 1/2 of the replacement cost, no repairs will be
done.
-
If the tech department determines that a
projector is not worth repairing, however the school chooses to pursue repair,
the school is responsible for paying for the repair. Complete this repair
form, ECS Repair Form attach it to the projector, and pack the
projector, addressing it to ECS. Send or deliver the box to the Tech
Center. The tech staff will notify ECS to stop by the tech center to pick
up/deliver the projector.
-
The school will be responsible for
transferring funds from a building account to the district media account to
cover the repair costs.
