General information about the orchestra program at Wickham:
4th, 5th, and 6th grade students have the opportunity to participate in orchestra! Orchestra is a co-curricular program in which students can learn a string instrument. The instruments offered are violin, viola, cello and bass. All first year string students participate in the Beginning Orchestra, while continuing students play in the Advanced Orchestra. Opportunities to enroll in the orchestra program are: at the Back-to-School Social, an enrollment packet sent home with all 4th grade students following a demonstration of the string instruments in General Music class (usually during the first week of school), special requests throughout the year.
The two components of the orchestra program are weekly lessons and after-school rehearsals. Students who choose to participate in orchestra attend a 20-25 minute lesson one day a week during school. After-school rehearsals occur every Wednesday at North Central Jr. High School (please see below for details).
To share their progress, orchestra students give two performances a year (one in January and another in May). The Advanced Orchestra also goes on a tour of the elementary schools represented by their group every spring.

Important reminder: If school is cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions (i.e. snow day or early release) then after-school activities, such as orchestra rehearsals, are also cancelled.
