Current Announcements

Florida Trip Update

This is a reminder that the first payment of $275 for the Florida trip was due on January 28^th. You can subtract any fundraising profits your student has in their account. The list of student accounts is posted at the band office. If your son or daughter is also in the choir program, any fundraising money can be transferred from their choir account to the band account to go towards this trip. Please email me if you would like to make such a transfer. If for some reason you unable to make the payment at the end of this week, but your son or daughter is definitely planning on participating in the trip, please let me know.

At this point, our Florida performances have been confirmed. A tentative itinerary for the trip has been emailed to parents.

 

Iowa State Honor Band

Congratulations to the following students selected to participate in the Gold Band at the Iowa State University Honor Band Festival on February 4^th and 5^th in Ames:  Julia O’Donnell, Ella Brown, Leah deMatta, Molly Parsons, Tong Yu – Clarinet, Erica Segre and Elani Katz – Bassoon, and Kristen Lineback – French Horn. The students will rehearse for two days and give a concert on Saturday in CY Stevens Auditorium.

 

Jazz Ensemble in Corridor Jazz Project Recording & Concert

The West High Jazz Ensemble will completed a recording session last week in the West High North Band room as part of the Corridor Jazz Project. The recording will be compiled with other area jazz bands to produce a CD that will be released at the Corridor Jazz Project Concert on April 5^th at the Prairie High School Auditorium. The West High Jazz Ensemble’s performance will feature local blues vocal artist Kevin B.F. Burt.

 

Jazz Ensemble to participate at Jazz Colloquium

The West High Jazz Ensemble will participate in the Urbandale Jazz Colloquium on Saturday, February 5^th. The students will perform and participate in jazz workshops and masterclasses with bands from the Des Moines area.

 

University of Iowa Honor Band

Congratulations to the following students selected to participate in the UI Honor Band Festival which will be held on Saturday, February 26th:  Patience Klein, Hanky Song, Ji-Eun Choi—Flute, Eleni Katz and Zora Hurst—Bassoon, Linda Xiong, Julia O’Donnell, Tong Yu—Clarinet, Emily Medd and Darra Stuart—F Horn,  and Stephen Bork—Tuba.
