JETS (Junior Engineering Technical Society). The national organization sponsors a test in February for teams of up to eight students from a school. TEAMS is an acronym for Test of Engineering Aptitude in Math and Science. West High Sponsors a team each year of students in grades 9-12. Teams work in an open book, open note, open discussion format in a one day, two-part competition. Team members should have knowledge of math, chemistry, physics, biology, and computer applications. The questions posed represent college freshman-level engineering coursework. Problems on TEAMS competitions offer students the opportunity to see how engineering touches almost every aspect of our lives dealing with such real-world engineering issues as air transportation, bridge design and rehabilitation, flood analysis, solar powered vehicles, and food preservation. Teams compete for local, state, and national awards and recognition. JETS will award trophies and certificates and other prizes to be determined to the top ten national teams in each division. |
