2011-12 Volleyball

The 2011-2012 volleyball season will begin with an informational meeting for student athletes on Thursday, August 18 at 2:30. The first day of practice will be Friday, August 19. There will be general practices with all players for the first 5-7 days of practice. These practices will last approximately two hours. After teams have been selected, practices will be divided into early and late session. The early practice sessions will begin at 3:30 and the late practices will begin at 5:00.

Game Highlights

September 15

8th grade Green: The results of the B Team games were NWJH 1 Tie and 5 Losses with scores of 16-25, 19-22, 13-25, 11-25, 10-25, and 19-19. The results of the A Team games were NWJH 3 Wins and 0 Losses with scores of 25-5, 25-17, and 15-7.

Stand-outs for the B teams were as follows: Anoushka Divekar, Courtney Hurt, and Catherine McLean made fabulous passes, Raiven Tremmel played great at the net, Adara Opiola did a great job setting, Ellie Jacoby and Zohar Nadler played strong defense, while Jordan Schade had a wonderful overall game.

Stand-outs for the A team was as follows: Liann Heisterkamp did a great job setting, Darian Showalter made wonderful passes, and Jessica Harder played her heart out with amazing serves making 19 straight serves (10 of which were Aces) to win the first game of the match and made a total of 31 out of 32 serves for the night.

NW 8th Grade GOLD played SE White and won 2-1, the A games and went 1-5 in the B games. Standouts were: Marissa Frisbie, Ariah Muller, Rowan Haverkamp, Stacy German 

Northwest 7th grade Gold team played at home against Southeast White on Thursday, September 15. Northwest was defeated by Southeast 1-8. Scores for the B3: 

Ally Bauer, Darby Donovan, Casey McClenathan, Abbi Crane, Izzy Hingeton, Paige Lytle, Faith Barber & Nakia Long all played very well for the Vivkings. Sydnie Shie, Sheyenne Koethe, Abbigail Jans & Sata Topp-Henrichs all served well for Northwest.

September 8

Northwest Junior High School 8th grade green volleyball team traveled to Cedar Rapids Taft on 9/8/2010.  The results of the B Team games were NWJH 2 Wins and 4 Losses.  The results of the A Team games were NWJH 1 Win and 2 Loses.Fernanda Plata-Mora and Elizabeth Donze served very well for the B teams. Nyesha Washington and Jordan Schade each passed well while Alexis Lamphere set great and Katerina Klopp played great overall defense all for the B teams. Also, Sharon Xiang made amazing digs for the B teams. The A team played great all around and exhibited wonderful teamwork in their match. Great work, all NWJH Green!

2010 7th Grade Game Notes

Sept 23

The Northwest Junior High 7th Grade Green Volleyball team traveled to North Liberty on Monday to take on North Central Junior High. The Northwest B teams went 2-3-1.  Overall the teams played exceptionally well.  Taylor West, Khadija Washington and Emily Wilson all served tremendously.  Katie Klopp and Maja Luttinger added some great passes.  Brandie Horton and Courtney Hurt also played fantastic defense.   
The A team won 2 out of 3 games for the first time this season.  The athletes played extremely well, covering the floor and hustling after balls.  Liann Heisterkamp and Abby Hansen made some great plays up at the net.  Barbara Badovinac and Catherine McLean both had several clutch serves.  The Green team will host South East White on Thursday in the Northwest gym at 3:45.

Sept. 27

The Northwest Junior High 7th Grade Green Volleyball Team hosted South East White on Thursday September 24. 
The B teams had a tough afternoon, going 0-6.  They played hard and made some great plays defensively.  Lucy Blair, Sidney Petitgout and Emma Guthart made some excellent passes.  Anne Gleason, Maya Magaraci, Sharon Xiang and Talia Call served really well for NW.  Brandie Horton and Andie Lynch made some good hustle plays. 
The A team played their best match of the season, winning all 3 games against South East.  The team used three hits several times throughout the match; passed, set and hit well and had some wonderful clutch serves.  Catherine McLean served a number of times in a row, getting NW out to a big lead.  Jessie Harder and Abby Hansen added some great hits set up by Liann Heisterkamp, Edie Swickerath and Ariah Muller.  Overall, the athletes played exceptional volleyball. 
Northwest will travel to Cedar Rapids Prairie on Tuesday September 24 for a 3:45 game time. 

Sept 29

7th grade Gold Volleyball B teams tied with Southeast Red 3 games each.  Carolyn Schultz, Emma Christison and Talieah Dillard served well.  Emilie Nelson and Grace Huber passed well.
Northwest 7th Gold A beat Southeast Red 2 games to 1.  Hannah Burt and Taylor Libby served well.  Heelah Nadler, Katie Olson and Payton Proud were beastly passers.

Oct 6th

Northwest 7th grade Gold Volleyball team played Southeast white team Monday evening.
Northwest B team lost 1-5
13-25, 16-21,19-17, 16-20, 17-21 and 13-25.
Ally McKeone, Salma Nour-Eldiam, Grace Huber, and Ellie Jacoby all served well.
Go Eun Kim, Amy Chen, Erica Law, Lauren Luce, Zohar Nadler, Taylor Digmann, Rowan Haverkamp, and Miranda Finley also played well.
Northwest A Team lost 1-2
9-25, 25-13, and 9-15
Heelah Nadler, Darian Showalter, and Hannah Birt served well.  Payton Proud, Marissa Frisbie, and Taylor Libby all played well.

    

The Northwest Junior High 7th Grade Green Volleyball team traveled across town to South East Junior High where they took on the Red team Monday October 4.
The "B" teams had a tough afternoon winning one of six matches, but the athletes played hard and never gave up.  Ebony McKeever, Alyssa Michel and Sharon Xiang served well.  Lucy Blair, Maddie Fletcher, Brandie Horton and Sidney Petitgout passed well during the games.  The girls also played great defense, using three hits and scrambling for the ball.
The "A" team swept South East, winning all three games.  The athletes played extremely well, using great serving to get a big lead.  Ariah Muller, Catherine McLean, Liann Heisterkamp and Adara Opiola all served tremendously.  Barbara Badovinac and Tannor McDonald had some excellent sets to Edie Swickerath and Jessie Harder for kills.  Abby Hansen continued to play strong up at the net.

October 11

7th Grade Gold Volleyball--North Central A 3 Northwest Gold A 0 
Northwest lost 12-25,21-25 and 6-15.  Katie Olson, Hannah Birt, Piper Wenzel, and Darian Showalter all served well against North central. Marissa Frisbie, Zoe Geerdes, Taylor Libby, Heelah Nadler, and Payton Proud all played well for the Vikings.  
Northwest Gold B 4 North Central B 2 
Northwest B won 19-22, 20-21, 19-18, 20-19, 24-15, and 19-17.  
Miranda Finley, Ellie Jacoby, Tonee Collier,Mary Kinlein, Naomi Shylanski and Rowan Haverkamp served well. Taylor Digman, Mallory Knoop,Erica Law, Marisah Richards and Grace Huber all played well.

The Northwest Junior High 7th Grade Green Volleyball team finished out their season at South East Junior High on Thursday October 7.
The athletes all played really hard, executing plays they had practiced all season.  The "B" teams took one of six from Southeast, but played well.  Brandie Horton, Maya Magaraci, Talia Call and Leela Bassuk served well.  Emma Guthart, Taylor West and Emily Wilson played excellent defense.  Overall, the teams played some of their best volleyball of the season.
The "A" team won two out of three, playing extremely well throughout the matches.  Adara Opiola, Catherine McLean and Liann Heisterkamp had some timely serves.  Barbara Badovinac and Abby Hansen played well defensively.  Ariah Muller had a few stunning sets to Jessie Harder, Edie Swickerath and Tannor McDonald who had some great hits.  The girls played well together, talking and moving around the court.  The Green squad came together as a team, learned about volleyball and played well throughout the whole season.
