Children’s Hospital of Iowa is proud to offer the Better Eating, Stronger Teens (BEST) program. This new program is for 7-12th grade girls who are overweight or at risk for overweight (BMI >85%ile).
The BEST program is a 10-week pilot behavioral weight management program which integrates nutrition education and exercise with a focus on mental health and family involvement. This program will launch in Fall 2007.
The program will meet either on Tuesdays and Thursdays or on Saturday mornings and an additional exercise time. Parents of participants will be required to attend weekly didactic sessions. Parents will also be asked to commit to a behavior change goal for themselves. Each participating family will have a bi-weekly consultation with a nutritionist.
Prior to September 14, 2007, students need to complete an intake appointment as well as nutrition and fitness assessments. We need to receive a physician referral form. For more information, call Krista at 319-384-7900. Downloadable forms available by March 15 on www.uihealthcare.com.
This Children’s Hospital of Iowa program is jointly sponsored by Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with support from the Children’s Miracle Network and UIHC Food and Nutrition Services.
