The 2011-2012 football season will begin with an informational meeting for student athletes on Thursday, August 18 at 2:30. The first day of practice will be Friday, August 19. Practices will begin 15 minutes after the last bell (3:30 or 2:30) and last approximately two hours.

Game Highlights
September 13-15
Northwest Green 6 - Harding Green 0 Alex Henderson scored on a 5 yard run early in the game and the Northwest defense came up big several times to preserve the shutout victory. David Pederson had an interception, Nate Kelsay recovered a fumble and Parker Sherlock blocked a punt.
8th grade Gold football team played very well yesterday at Kingston Stadium and defeated McKinley of Cedar Rapids 40 to 6. Tremaine Hoover led the way with three touchdowns. Donovan Doyle, Jack Chen, August Nicklaus, and Patrick Karanja all scored for the Vikings. Chase Blatz was the defensive player of the game and Donovan Doyle was the offensive player of the game. Others who stood out on offense were: Ryan Smith, Bo Nock, and Jordan Foraker. Three other players stood out on the defensive side of the ball and they were Terrence Dudley, Logan Carter, and Zach McClean. Bryan Martinez did a marvelous job kicking the football for the Vikings. The team has shown a lot of improvement, which has pleased the coaching staff.
September 8
The Northwest Gold football team open up their season with an impressive 22 to 0 shut out against South East A. Tremaine Hoover returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to set the tempo for the game. Hoover also ran for two other first half scores. Quarterback Donovan Doyle had a great all around game and ran for one two point conversion and hit Augie Nicklaus with a pass for the other 2 pt. conversion. Others who stood out on offense were Ryan Smith, Logan Carter, Jordan Foraker, Bo Nock and Jack Chen. The defensive standouts were Jabaar Scott, Chase Blatz, Terrence Dudley, Zach McClean, and Patrick Karanja. The Vikings played a near perfect first half with no turnovers and few if any penalties.
The 8th Gold Reserves lost a hard fought battle to South East Red 6-0. Morgan Conrad intercepted a pass and played well on defense. The other players who stood out for nice defensive
play were James Thompson, James Christensen, David Jenkins, Carl Grosevnor, Paci Keiti, Ben Bertel, and Cody Colburn. The next game for the GOLD is Tuesday at KIngsdom Stadium in Cedar Rapids

8th Grade 2010 Season in review
9-13
The eighth grade Gold football team started the season on the right foot Thursday with a 26 to 0 shutout victory over the South East White team. Kevin Dowell and Michael Fredieu combined for 227 yards rushing-- capped by Dowell's 68 yard touchdown run. Tyler Eads was involved in two touchdowns and a two point conversion. Eads threw a 41 yard touchdown pass to John Milani and Eads also returned an interception 22 yards for another score. The offensive and defensive lines played very well for the Vikings. The offensive line was led by Ryan Jenn, Thomas Phann, Mateo Oyarzon, Mike Shaver ,Andrew Vergara, Shadarius Bolden, and Armando Sanchez. On defense: Jesus Carbajal, Eric Millers, and Cordell Staton all had fine games. Brenden Clark helped preserve the shutout with a fine special teams tackle after the final Vikings' kickoff.
In the reserve game, Michael Williams and Omar Gonzalez stood out on offense-- while Alex Malo led the defense. The Vikings defense held South East scoreless in both games.

The Eighth Grade Gold Football team was defeated 27 to 12 Thursday afternoon at North Central. Kevin Dowell scored on a 48 yard run and Michael Fredieu scored on a 66 yard pass from Tyler Eads to lead the Vikings offensively. John Milani, Thomas Phan and Eric Millers played well on the defensive side of the ball while John Collentine and Alex Malo stood out on the offensive side. In the Reserve Game-- the two teams battled to a scoreless tie. Hayden Hendricks, Jesus Carbajal, Omar Gonzalez, and Ryan Havel played well for the Vikings. The Vikings’ next game is @ 3:45 PM at home on Thursday against CR Prairie.

The 8th Grade Gold Football team lost a hard fought battle Thursday afternoon 22-16 to CR Prairie Black. Tyler Eads, Michael Fredieu, Hayden Hendricks, and Kevin Dowell played well on the offensive side of the ball for the Vikings. Shadarius Bolden, Eric Millers, and John Milani played well on the defensive side of the ball.
In the Reserve Game: The 8th Grade Gold had a fine goal line stand in the final seconds to preserve a 6 to 0 shutout. Michael Williams, Joe Williams, Ali Ali, Armando Sanchez, and Jesus Carbajal played very well for the Vikings. The last game of the season is next Thursday against Iowa City South East.
The 8th Grade Green Football team dropped a hard-fought game at Cedar Rapids Prairie last Thursday. 20 – 14. Noah love and John Phillips each scored touchdowns. Turnovers and penalties led to a difficult second half for the Vikings. Brendan Clements and Logan Stevens played well in the offensive line.
The reserve team enjoy a 26 – 0 victory over the Hawks. Kyle Payne scored two touchdowns and Connor Gordon and Brad Glick also crossed the goal line. Gordon and Hank Hugen had impressive interceptions to lead the defense to a shutout. Joe Ranard and Zach Rodriguez frustrated the Prairie offense with their strong play on the defensive line.

The 8th Grade Gold football team ended their season on a high note—defeating the South East Red team 38 to 0. The Gold team saved their best performance for their last game as everyone on the team played extremely well in the victory. Tyler Eads and Michael Williams each threw a touchdown pass. John Milani and John Collentine were on the receiving end of the touchdown tosses. Kevin Dowell ran for two touchdowns and Mateo Oyarzun and Milani each ran for one touchdown. Corbin Countryman did a fine job kicking extra-points for the Vikings. Both the offensive and defensive lines played well and Ali Ali had an interception for the Vikings.
In the Reserve Game the Vikings lost 6-0. Keiffer Baumert, Armando Sanchez, Mike Shaver, Ryan Havel, and Joe Williams played for the Vikings.

Logan Carter and Antonio Sanchez both scored two touchdowns to lead Northwest. Francis Jayoma recorded a two point conversion run and Bo Nock threw a conversion pass to August Nicklaus. Jacquan Rousan, David Jenkins, and Ian Weber led the Vikings on defense. The offensive line was led by: Jake Metzger, Kevan Patel, and Patrick Karanja and Nathan Barnes played a great game at the quarterback position.

Lightweight Green 7th grade played southeast Red on Tuesday September 14, 2010. It was a defensive battle the entire game with a final score of 12-12. Offensively David Pederson and Juma Burnett connected on touchdowns of 55 yards and 70 yards for the Vikings. Defensively Conner Gast and Terrance Dudley provided great run support up the middle while Donavan Crowley added an interception.

Tuesday September 28th the Lightweight green 7th grade football team defeated Southeast white 22-6. Francis Borgess had runs of 60 and 70 yards scoring a touchdown and a two point conversion. David Pederson threw two touchdown passes to Juma Burnett and also recovered a key fumble. Cody Colburn also scored on a pass for a two point conversion. Defensively Jace Vergara and David Kim plugged up the middle on run defense and Riley Marvin, Darius Alexander, and Donavan Crowley provided Northwest with great pass coverage. The Vikings play Cedar Rapids Metro on Monday here at Northwest at 3:45.

The 7th grade Gold lightweight football team finished the season with 2 wins and 3 losses. On Tuesday the Vikings finished with a loss at Linn mar. Northwest was led by Francis Jayoma, Quinn Dawson, Mohamed Elsid, Kaleb Turnbull and Bo Nock on the defensive side of the ball. On the offensive side, the Vikings were led by Gage Miller, Jake Metzger, Wyatt Meinders, Patrick Karanja, Logan Carter, and Antonio Sanchez had a long punt return.
7th grade lightweight green football team finished up the year on Tuesday defeating North Central 14-6. The green team finished the season with 2 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie. Against the Knights Juma Burnett scored on runs of 1 yard and 60 yards. Cody Coulburn caught a two-point conversion pass from David Pederson. Xavier Johnson and Nick Rohm played well in the secondary with Xavier Johnson recording his first interception of the season. Conner Gast, Terrance Dudley, and Bryan Martinez each recovered a fumble. Dudley also had a key blocked punt in the game.
