This is an individualized language arts program with emphasis on written expression.

This is a general math class with emphasis on skill development and practical application.  Work is individualized.

PRACTICAL SCIENCE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a “practical orientated science course” which emphasizes the application of science principles to everyday life.

EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS:
Maintain a science notebook

PRACTICAL SOCIAL STUDIES

LENGTH: All Year

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will enable students to understand rudimentary concepts of American History,
U. S. and world geography, and the contemporary world in which we live.  This would include knowledge of people, events and concepts that would be considered to be general common knowledge. This is a two year course; one year of Global Studies alternating with one year of American Studies.

PRACTICAL STRATEGIES

PREREQUISITE: Must have an IEP

GRADE LEVEL: 7 or 8

CATEGORY:  Required if staffed

LENGTH: As staffing indicates

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The program is designed to support students who have been identified through the Student Review Team process or the Special Education Team process as eligible for Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 service.  Each student has an individual education plan (I.E.P.) on his/her strengths and weaknesses that may indicate a need for alternative programming in specific curricular areas such as language arts, science, social studies, reading and math.  Additionally, students may receive credit in alternative classes developed to meet the credit requirements in the areas of communications and practical arts.
Students are integrated into general education classes in areas where they can achieve success and reasonable accommodations can be made.  Associate support is available to help with integration into general education classes.

PRACTICAL TYPING

PREREQUISITE: Must have an IEP

GRADE LEVEL: 7 or 8

CATEGORY:  Required if staffed

LENGTH: Minimum 1 Trimester

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is intended to provide essential computer skills including keyboarding, file management, and applications.

AREAS OF STUDY:
Keyboarding
Basic operation of the computer
Basic academic word processing needs

EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS:
Be responsible for the proper handling of the equipment
Use class time efficiently to learn to operate the computers and to complete all in-class work on time
