COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will offer participation in a wide variety of activities. All physical education activities will be adapted to meet the physical limitations of the students to make sure they can achieve success.

Students will participate to the best of their ability. Special Olympics is a voluntary extracurricular activity offered for adaptive p.e. students.

This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to engage in a physically active, healthy lifestyle throughout life. Areas of focus include:

Students will be able to:
Demonstrate effective use of personal and social skills to enhance health/fitness behavior.
Develop the motor competency to participate in a variety of physical activities to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Display consideration and respect for differences among individuals.
The Physical Education Curriculum addresses the lack of physical activity among young adults by integrating physical activity into all phases of work and play. Students will discover that physical activity does not always mean high impact workouts or competitive sports. The program instills in students the concept that living life actively and dynamically is vital to a healthy lifestyle.

EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS:
Students are expected to have proper dress consisting of regular gym shorts, regular T-shirts, socks and tennis shoes. T-shirts must have the student's first and last name marked permanently on the back. Sweat clothing is not required but advisable for when the weather turns colder. Swimming suits and towels will be required for the swimming unit. Medical excuses are required for students unable to participate. Students are expected to demonstrate a positive approach to personal hygiene, follow safety procedures outlined for each activity and be responsible for securing personal belongings.
