Students are assigned to classrooms heterogeneously. The homeroom teacher teaches all areas of language arts. A whole language, literacy-based program is used. Skills are extended in those groups to meet the individual student needs. Math is taught in whole group instruction with third through sixth grades subdivided into achievement levels. Science and social studies are taught in whole group instruction with hands-on activities. Information literacy and technology are integrated into the curriculum also.

Over the years, the staff has been committed to developing programs that meet the varied and unique needs of the students who attend the school. They have created a climate that is conducive to making students feel good about attending school. They also stress preparing students academically and socially for the future. Basic skills are an essential part of the student's total program, but great effort is spent in order to create a well-rounded education.
