Types of Literature - Historical Fiction (focus on setting and character)

Historical fiction tells a story of the past with a strong focus on setting and character. Historical fiction helps readers develop a sense of history and an awareness of people living in the past. Through historical fiction readers can vicariously experience history. Even though times change, the universal needs of people remain relatively unchanged. For students’ understanding and enjoyment, it is particularly important to build background when reading historical fiction.
