

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Districtwide Parents' Organization (DPO) is to facilitate and enhance communication and education throughout
the Iowa City Community School District and to advocate for students in our community.

The Districtwide Parents' Organization (DPO) is an autonomous group, open to
all parents in the Iowa City Community School District. The DPO will:
- Be an independent, decision-making group;
- Represent the parental point of view on various committees and boards such as, but not limited to,
Curriculum Review, Reconsideration, enrollment Committee and the Iowa City Community School District Foundation;
- Support and encourage active participation in each school's parent organization;
- Plan programs that are of mutual interest to those within the district;
- Provide a forum to share information, discuss goals and exchange ideas which would include local,
state and national legislative issues;
- Sponsor events that provide information about issues that impact education such as, but not limited to,
School Board Candidates Night, public town meetings and a legislative trip to Des Moines;
- Sponsor district wide programs which promote safety such as, but not limited to, Block parents and the MADD
Red Ribbon Campaign;
- Sponsor events that promote excellence in education such as, but not limited to, the DPO Education Scholarship and
Recognition reception.
