The Districtwide Parents' Organization (DPO) is an autonomous group, open to all parents in the Iowa City Community School District. The DPO will:

• Be an independent, decision-making group;
• Represent the parental point of view on various committees and boards such as, but not limited to, Curriculum Review, Reconsideration, enrollment Committee and the Iowa City Community School District Foundation;
• Support and encourage active participation in each school's parent organization;
• Plan programs that are of mutual interest to those within the district;
• Provide a forum to share information, discuss goals and exchange ideas which would include local, state and national legislative issues;
• Sponsor events that provide information about issues that impact education such as, but not limited to, School Board Candidates Night, public town meetings and a legislative trip to Des Moines;
• Sponsor district wide programs which promote safety such as, but not limited to, Block parents and the MADD Red Ribbon Campaign;
• Sponsor events that promote excellence in education such as, but not limited to, the DPO Education Scholarship and Recognition reception.
